Carlos Ramiro Colón-Izquierdo

Carlos R. Colón-Izquierdo is an attorney, musician, and music producer, who started his career as a founding member and keyboard player for Latin Alternative group, Black Guayaba. He attended Berklee College Music, majoring in Music Business and Management. After leaving college to pursue his musical career, Carlos spent the first ten years of his career as a touring musician and composer. He has been honored by the Recording Academy with multiple Latin Grammy and Grammy Award nominations, receiving a Grammy Award in the year 2008 for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album. Carlos is also the recipient of the prestigious ASCAP Vanguard Award and is a Latin Billboard Award finalist.

He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Puerto Rico Law School.When Carlos became an attorney, he focused his attention on Entertainment Law, Arts, Entrepreneurship, and Intellectual Property. He advises musicians, actors, tattoo artists, and entertainers, with particular focus on the "day-to-day" of their respective industries. Carlos also serves as counsel for independent music labels and management firms, acting as the lead legal mind in their corporate and contractual structure.   He represents artists from various music genres, as both their business advisor and attorney, negotiating diverse entertainment contracts, including recording, digital distribution, music publishing, and producer agreements. 

Having a solid background as a musician and recording artist, Carlos has developed a legal services philosophy that centers in client capacitation and education. He believes clients are the main link between the entertainment law world and the music industry, thus clients need to be well versed in the legal and business aspects of their craft to efficiently communicate and negotiate deals. For this reason, Carlos dedicates countless hours to mentoring his clients and making sure they understand the intricacies of the entertainment industry.  

In the past year, Carlos has helped secure millions of dollars in record, publishing and distribution deals for his clients, with special focus on classic urban music catalogs and developing new artist deals.   Presently, Carlos has his own boutique law studio, Colón Izquierdo Law LLC, and serves as counsel for music related matters at The Sifre Group, LLC, one of the most renown entertainment law firms in Puerto Rico.
